If you’ve been paying any attention to our Facebook account – you know that Summer Time in the Virgin Islands is gorgeous. Less people and less wind makes for great boating! Our recommended summer time boat trip? Taking Soul Mate to Virgin Gorda to visit the Baths!
These giant boulders were formed about 50 million years ago when molten rock known as magma pushed its way upwards, cooled and solidified forming large slabs of mineral rich granite. This became exposed due to faulting and uplifting of the sea floor and today large parts of Virgin Gorda are composed entirely of granite. Rain, sun, surf and wind have worn down parts of these rocks which make them the interesting and beautiful rock formations that are there today.
Since they are about 30 miles from St. Thomas, this is a longer boat tip, which is why we recommend Soul Mate and a calm day. When booking your trip with Aqua Blue Charters, let us know The Baths are your preferred destination so we can make sure you have enough time for the longer boat trip.
We recommend the itinerary as follows for a great boat day to The Baths, Virgin Gorda. Leave Sapphire Marina or the National Park Dock on St. John at 9:00am. On Soul Mate, head straight to Virgin Gorda to clear customs in Spanish Town. Enjoy the swim/snorkel into The Baths beach from Soul Mate (the beaches are swimming only areas) for a few hours of light rock climbing and cave exploring as you take the trail from the main beach to Devil’s Bay (or the other way around!). Swim back out to Soul Mate and enjoy the North East side of Tortola as you head to Jost Van Dyke for lunch and relaxing on White Bay. Of course, there are many variations of this day – let us know what you want to do on your boat day when you book!
